I think the best way to network within a huge organization is through lunch meetups. I find lunch meetings a good way to break the ice and also do not need extra time commitment from the attendees :}

After all, they still need to have their lunch, might as well network over a couple of hot burritos!

All hands meeting... try to find groups of people not within your department. The company's lounge is a good place too.
