I've getting an offer soon and looking forward to start the negotiation process. My question is - is it better to negotiate for a higher starting salary and not care about the sign on bonuses or the other way round?

See what they say about the entire package then decide how to negotiate. If they ask you for a ballpark then give them a range which includes the base and all the other perks.
